Simple, Sharp, Square

Square exhibited at the JB Hi-Fi MegaTech expo within Melbourne Centrepiece to deliver a compact activation designed to support product education and training. Built within a 3x3m footprint, the stand adapted Square’s larger retail concept into a focused environment that prioritised demonstration, learning and engagement.

The activation showcased how Square’s technology supports hospitality and retail operators through simple, practical tools for everyday business use. Supported by a local collaboration with Pinto Tiramisu, the space also added a light hospitality moment, helping create a welcoming environment for training, conversation and hands on product exploration.

What the client needed

Square needed a compact stand for the JB Hi-Fi MegaTech expo at Melbourne Centrepiece that could function effectively as both a training and demonstration space. The design had to clearly communicate product value while supporting hands on education for retail staff and visitors in a busy expo environment.

It was important that the space remained open, accessible and easy to understand within a limited 3x3m footprint. Key requirements included clear product demonstration zones, strong brand visibility and a layout that supported quick learning moments and guided conversations around Square’s technology.

Small but Intentional

The approach was to translate Square’s broader retail presence into a distilled and highly focused 3x3m environment, prioritising clarity, hierarchy and immediate product understanding within a fast paced expo setting. Rather than attempting to replicate a full scale experience, the priority was to create a space that supported quick learning moments and straightforward engagement.

The design focused on reducing the concept down to its essential components, ensuring the layout felt intentional and easy to navigate within a compact footprint. Strong visual framing through a defined back wall and compact counter placement was considered key to directing attention and establishing a clear point of interaction for demonstrations.

Every element needed to earn its place within the space, supporting visibility, comprehension and ease of use while maintaining a strong and recognisable Square presence. The result was a focused environment designed to communicate product value quickly and effectively in a busy expo context.

How we activated

The stand was delivered as a compact, high impact demonstration space within the JB Hi-Fi MegaTech expo environment at Melbourne Centrepiece. The physical build featured a clear back wall and integrated tech counter that supported live demonstrations and facilitated direct interaction between the Square team and visitors.

On site, the space functioned as an open and accessible touchpoint where attendees could quickly engage with the product, observe demonstrations and ask questions in real time. Flow was kept simple and direct to support high turnover and continuous engagement throughout the event.

A light hospitality moment supported by Pinto Tiramisu added an approachable entry point, helping draw attention to the stand within the busy expo floor. Selected posters were carried over from the larger 6x6m stand, ensuring visual consistency and brand continuity across different footprint scales.
